Re: DRAGON AGE 2 SECTION
Nygozy wrote:WHAT WILL HAPPEN:
The Dragon Age 2 section will be for Dragon Age 2.
It is not going to include the characters from Dragon Age 1 as it takes what, 3 or so months to get to Kirkwall? Unless you want to have your character relocated to that section and have a long interval that they are not doing anything besides being on a ship then don't send them there.
Anyone who has not played DA2 will not have any need to go into the DA2 section as none of their characters will be affected.
The DA2 section will have spoilers. That is a guarantee as there is no way to play it without spoilers being involved. If you don't want to see spoilers don't go into that section.
It is true that the hero and champion are not required in either section; however, some of us like the idea of having them. If you do not like that and prefer that the champion is not there then don't play. I am not about to take away what I have promised to many people for the disinterest of a few.
So eh...will the both RPs occur in parallel on the timeline, or is the DA2 RP going to be a post-DA2 RP thus 10 years into the future from our DA1 RP?

Same timeline.
If there are large consequences from one section it is possible that those will affect the other and vice versa so I do not wish to put the DA2 in the future as I don't want current characters to come up in the future when new things we do in the DA1 could affect that future.
I hope I made that understandable.

This is what I was hoping for, for that exact reason. In which case, this'll be really, really fun, IMO. And speaking from experience, playing out the events of a game is actually fun, and doesn't at all follow everything in the game. A single character could have an impact on how things go down. The exact reason that I'd be against this being ten years in the future, because who knows how Nygozy and the other people in Ferelden will affect things?

Hey you said a 3 month time in a boat. What about Mages who can fly? Would take a lot less time than by boat.

Re: DRAGON AGE 2 SECTION
It's still a ridiculous idea to think that a bunch of mages who could fly would travel to Kirkwall - and that's just if they're alone. Anyone with land-locked companions would still be out of luck.
Personally, I don't see the problem - if you don't want to play DA2, then just don't join the DA2 RP. Don't read it, and you won't get any spoilers if you intend to play it eventually. Anyone who doesn't want to do the DA2 RP can continue with the current RP as usual, and the status quo stays the same.
In the same vein, for people who are worried that the current RP with interfere with the DA2 RP in those 10 years, well, why do they have to? Simply pretend that the two are completely seperate, and even if we don't do that, how often is the Hero mentioned in DA2? Five times, and vaguely at best? The Champion's story never really has to worry about the Hero's, so the RPs shouldn't have to be so involved, either. Even if the Hero does something important in Ferelden, the Free Marches are far enough away that we don't have to make it matter.

Re: DRAGON AGE 2 SECTION
What speed would a mage be able to fly at? Even as a dragon, what kind of speed would they get and how would they fly that amount of time (even if it is only a couple weeks) without rest?
These characters are not super heroes out of Marvel or DC comics. Yes, some may be able to fly if they are allowed that power but the speed would be more relevant to a car or a speed boat at best. You're toast if you run out of steam over the ocean. Remember, one also has to use mana and that would take up space and weight on a mage. For a dragon it would take stamina and once again, stamina potions would weigh one down.
As for the two areas affecting each other: yes they will if large things happen. Things like oh Darkspawn were killed in Fereldan, big deal. Things like Denerim exploded into a zillion bits and trade has been stopped, it will affect Kirkwall but not by a lot. Most things are not going to make a huge impact besides rumours or some people grumbling about trade or what idiots they are over the seas doing this or that.
However, there may be some things which do change everything but I'm not gonna tell ya what those could be :p

Re: DRAGON AGE 2 SECTION
Well the speed would have to depend on the size. A large bird would take a month maybe a Month and a Half but your right about the ocean. Half the time they would be soaring so using energy isn't that big of a deal most birds can fly for days just by drifting from Thermal to thermal without having to land. And I'm sure you could find something to land on. A ship maybe a small island. Dolphins nose.

Very true regarding the thermals; however, there is still energy expended and it would still take a lot of time. To say the least, very few would be able to do it.

So we can't have the awesome post-DA2 consequences as a backdrop? Bawlz.

Well I can't really say, to avoid spoilers, you know, the thing that happens at the end, what all the flashbacks were leading up to.

Re: DRAGON AGE 2 SECTION
I bring it up because if a Person can fly why would he waste 3 months in a freaking ship packed in like sardines? This way there are other means of travel just because you can't do it doesn't mean those who can fly can't. It was a real question.

Would this bird be carrying a coconut? Because once you consider the air-speed velocity of an un-laden bird versus a bird carrying a coconut . . .

Dragons move 120-320 miles per day overland, depending on their normal fly speed.
@Serethiel: The bigger question is if it's African or European.

Re: DRAGON AGE 2 SECTION
Naturally, before we can decide that, we need to properly allocate each Thedesian location with real-world countries.
Let's start with the Free Marches. Pre-Unified Germany? I believe that if we go through each town individually and assess each's similarities and differences, we will eventually be able to reach a probable conclusion for assigning each country in Thedas to its real-world counterpart.
And then we can start on comparing the kinds of swallows likely found there.

Re: DRAGON AGE 2 SECTION
As for the dragons that depends on the size of the dragon to it's speed and how long it can go. Mainly based on age. Full grown dragon probably could stay in the skies for days with there increased stamina and power of there wings alone.
Now as for the bird and coconut thing it was mainly to keep it fair while people are riding in boats taking 3 months I wanted it to be somewhat fair as to having Mages able to fly to kirkwall and back in a couple of weeks. Kinda fairs it up. Also you have to take in the account of the bird and size.

Re: DRAGON AGE 2 SECTION
There is a reason why when sailors see birds that they know land is not far away. Because even a soaring bird can only go so far without having to land....And if there are no ships in its area when it does need to land, then well, it just committed suicide. Birds have a much higher self preservation.
Take migrating birds. They land to sleep, rest, and eat.
I mean, even dragons would take the land way around, so that it can stop eat, and burn villages and stuff.

Re: DRAGON AGE 2 SECTION
Whether a dragon could do it or not is irrelevant, even - none of us is going to go out and wrangle a dragon to ride, and not even Shapeshifter mages can shapeshift into dragons, anyway. Only Flemeth can, and I'm not so certain she's not a dragon herself, anyway.
Also, [/cry] you young'uns don't watch enough - no. I'm not even going to say it.

You could put a disclaimer on your shirt explaining to them why you're kicking them.
Or maybe one on the bottom of your foot?
