Damn You Sandy

Hey guys. Just an update from me, Lithawen, and Margaid. We're all dealing with the hurricane right now, and it looks like the power's ready go out in the near future. We were planning on posting, but if the power stays out for long, that might take some more time than we'd anticipated.

My power went out at 3:30 pm on monday and finally came back last night which revealed something horrible. My hardrive that had my os on it died after 9 years of use. It wasn't from Sandy but because it was off for a few days. I hate my luck sometimes, but at least no one I know got hurt.

How do you lose data by not using your computer?

Just the OS? Then get a small HDD or something for cheap (I think you can get a 500GB @ 7200RPM for around 70USD now), install OS, and you're good to go.

I wish i knew. it always had problems when it was off for a while and i guess age got to it.

I already ordered one off of amazon. 750 gb one. If Sandy didn`t hit I would have been able to pick one up at Microcenter but i doubt it would be open even if it had power

Incidentally, nine years on an OS? What Linux distro? Or did you never leave XP, even after MS dropped support for it?

i didn`t word that correctly. im currently using a 360 for internet access and lack a proper keyboard to type with on it. The hdd was 9 years old. I had installed windows 7 ultimate on it back in march. it had two partitions that was xp the original was corrrupt and the was installled last december...after i accidently wiped the previous install.

I don`t mind getting a new drive. Everything else in the computer was bought in the last year or two. I hate having to reinstall everything again.

I just got power back no internet so im using my phone, there are crazy lines for gas stations too. Gonna need to buy fresh food now our refreg is working again.

I'm glad everyone is safe even if there was outages and a computer issue.

I found it before the power went out and it might be the only reason I wasn't completely scared shit-less when Sandy was just tearing LI a new one.

just got the hard drive and installed the os and all necessary drivers. now for the 128 important updates.

as if one storm wasn't bad enough now we have a blizzard...I feel bad for the people who still don't have power

My power went off again at 3 pm...but came back at 6. The snow was barely sticking when the power went off.

It really is 2012 guys. Lets party our asses off and go down with this shipworld
