Lima Taliria Empty Lima Taliria

Post  Margaid Sun Jul 01, 2012 11:56 am

Character Name:Lima Taliria
Age:24
Sex:Female
Race:Rivaini City Elf (Tower)

Class:Mage
Specializations:Force Mage, Spirit Healer
Favored skills: Getting up close and personal before blasting enemies away

Hobbies: Fortune telling, entertaining with magic, particularly making magic butterflies, talking to spirits in the Fade and gaining their knowledge

Background: Lima is Rivaini by birth. While she never knew her father, she grew up close to her mother, who, like her daughter, was a mage and seer in Rivain. Her mother, Hestia, was a well-respected hedge witch in their small corner of the world, and was consulted on everything from foretelling fortuitous marriage arrangements to asking the benevolent spirits of the Fade to heal grievous wounds. Her mother had a reverence and respect for magic that was her way of keeping in control. The young Lima once, after waking from a nightmare, asked her mother why she did not fear the demons of the Fade. Hestia had taken her dear young mageling into her arms and, in hushed tones, told her, ‘I stand tall, look them in the eye and say ‘not today, my friend.’

Hestia taught her daughter everything she knew. Life as an elven mage in Rivain was not the nightmare the young Lima had learned it was for her kind elsewhere in Thedas. Elves were not looked down upon, and controlled magic was revered as a matter of tradition. She understood the dangers of consorting with demons and learned, like her mother, to tell them ‘not today.’

Lima excelled with her magic. As she grew, she could feel it run through her body like blood; she loved it, valued it. It was as much a part of her as was her heart or arm, and she would no more allow it to corrupt her than she would willingly drink poison. She did not have the talent for Seeing as her mother had, but her connection to the Fade made her a reasonably apt fortune teller, and she was regarded as certainly well-controlled enough to not pose a disturbance to the Natural Order revered by the Rivaini.

Not all in Thedas, however, are content to allow any mage walk free, no matter how tight their control. When Lima was seventeen, Hestia needed to cross over into Antiva, though for what business, Lima never learned. Her mother was reasonably cautious, but knowing that the Chantry was not as strong in Antiva as it might be in some other places in the world, she was willing to risk it. Lima insisted on accompanying her. In some twisted way, the elf girl was glad, in hindsight, that she made this decision. It was better than sitting at home for the rest of her days, without any idea as to why her mother would never come home.

As it happened, the risk, though decreased, was still a risk, and both mother and daughter were encountered with Templars not long before they were to return home. Hestia chose not to put up a fight, if only to protect her daughter from the harsh punishment it might inspire. Lima tried to get her to stop blaming herself as they were transported to their new prison in the Antivan Circle.

It was strange. Antiva was not far from Rivain, and yet, in their Circle, it felt so much closer. Lima knew nothing of Andrasteism, did not know a word of the Chant of Light. Her ‘religion’ was that the sun rises in the morning, the tides react to the moon, the grass grows because all that lives dies and rots and that magic makes all of this happen. If she reacted with fear to her new imprisonment, her mother was strangely quiet in their new captivity. She made it abundantly clear to the enchanters that she was in full control of her magic and continued to teach her daughter in secret. Lima struggled with the extreme differences in teachings, inclined towards her life-long practice of thriving with her magic but being told now to live in spite of it.

They lived like this for three years. One morning, Lima woke to find her mother sitting at her side, brushing her daughter’s hair absently as she looked down at her with a far-away look in her eyes. ‘Today, my dear one,’ she said. Not five minutes later did a group of Templars arrive to escort her mother to the Harrowing Chamber.

Lima sat in the front Hall of the Circle, pacing and wracked with nerves. She felt as though hours had passed. Then, the commotion started.

There was no crescendo. No stir in the air to signal to anyone what would happen. There was only an explosion, and then Templars everywhere were running. Running towards the Harrowing Chamber. Lima felt her blood run cold. She could neither hear nor see when an enchanter grabbed her and dragged her into a room where she and some other enchanters were guarding over the apprentices. A demonic horror was on the loose, the enchanter explained, and was ravaging any Templar it happened across. Lima was told to stay calm, that everything would be alright, but it was clear that the elder enchanters were afraid. In the midst of the chaos, it was not difficult to slip away.

Lima fled. Fled the Circle, fled Antiva. It was not difficult. All of the Templars in the circle had been understandably distracted and word travels slowly in the remote places the Circles are built in. The young mage had at first thought that she should return to Rivain, but soon decided that, if they were going to look for her, her old home would be the first place they would look. Instead, Lima went south. Ferelden was only just recovering from the Blight, and if an apostate mage could hide anywhere, it would be in the beehive of activity that came with rebuilding a broken nation. It was a long way, but Lima knew she could not stay anywhere for long, lest she be tracked down by the Templars, so the distance mattered little.

Living was difficult, but she survived. She stole, she used her looks, she labored, she did anything she could to get by during her four years on the run. Currently, she is hiding out in Amaranthine. Word has spread of the Warden Commander’s arrival at Vigil’s Keep. Lima plans to beg the Hero of Ferelden to allow her to join the Wardens. Only then will she be free of the Circle.

Personality: Lima has a very strong sense of identity, one that the reeducation of the Antivan Circle could not tamper. She believes in freedom and not censoring the self. Rather, the ideal state of being is understanding one’s own identity and either accepting it or, if one finds oneself lacking, then taking steps to improve the self as only that individual sees fit.

Lima is fond of people and honestly enjoys their company. She likes to entertain people with her magic, but has, in recent years, been understandably unable to reveal this expression of affection. This state of being forced to hide her magic, to be cut off from it, makes her feel like she’s always holding her breath, and she has to wait for the right moments to be able to breath again. Sometimes, she suffocates. She was raised with the idea that allowing her magic free expression is precisely what allows her to keep it under control.

Weapons/Armor: Lima tends to use her hands when casting magic, as carrying a staff around is a rather obvious marker for any Templars about. Her mother, however, did teach her to use a magic staff both artfully and for stronger casting. She tries to, for the moment, dress as commonly as possible so as to blend in.

She does still have her mother’s staff, which she hopes she may use freely someday, without having to hide both it and herself.

Appearance:Lima is on the taller side for an elf, and slender, with a heart-shaped face and large, hazel eyes. Like most Rivaini, she has tanned skin and dark hair, which she keeps long and pulled back in a loose plait. The elf girl is agile of limb from years of care-free activity, but has suffered as of late for want of a reliable food source. She is a pretty girl, and, when she was younger and still free, enjoyed dressing up in loose sashes and flowing skirts.

What's this? I'm alive!? Little did you all know, I've become the Phantom of the DAAE, living in the rafters and playing haunting plot-appropriate music, waiting for the right time to descend once more.

Are you going to bring Margaid into the picture as well? I would like that as well.

I do like the character and accept her.

Sorry it has taken so long to say anything. Fibro has been acting up.

Yes, I am definitely going to bring Margaid back. I think she still might be existing among you all as a pack horse. >w>;;

No worries, no worries. The fearless leader gets to take as much time as she wants~

Thanks for the 'Accept.' :3 I know I've been gone a long time. It's good to be back.
