I was bored, so I went through the character lists and made a quick list of statistics for the characters on the thread right now, in case anyone wants to have an at-a-glance overview of who and what we all play as.

Thank you for doing this out for everyone. I am quite sure it will be helpful for all the other players to know who is whom.

I really just went in the order that they appeared in the Characters section, which is out of order in a lot of places. I was going to go through and group them by player, but I lost track of some of the accounts and who they belonged to.

Hmm - I should put them in alphabetical order to make it easier to look up certain characters.

Edit: I alphabetized them. That way I don't have to go and try and find out join date or anything complicated like that.

Alphabetical tends to be pretty sensible when you have a list of items starting with an alphabet character.

Yes, I thought about it, but then I decided that I'd just go with whatever was on the character's actual profile – I wouldn't want to be giving away secrets that aren't mine to give away (even if it's fairly common knowledge). I'll (quite easily) change it if Mina would like me to, though~

Same goes for any other information that anyone wants m to fix for any other character.

I could have established a veritable dewey decimal system, and arranged them by RP author and class type, but yes, the alphabetical order was kinder on my lazy brain.

It also made me realize that we have many, many characters whose names start with the letters "g," "m," and "r." I suppose those are the names that end up sounding the most fantasy-ish.

I also secretly called the "Archived Character" list the "list of names that start with K," since the greater majority of them are all "k" names.

People tend to use names that start with strong letters or weird ones. That would explain the amount of 'k'. For me, I can say Calliara comes from a character of mine in D&D and Neverwinter Nights videogame (for the modded campaigns, not the official ones), Bowen comes from the main character in Dragonheart and Gunnar Karanir is the father of another character of mine (that I'm currently using in a personal Skyrim RP with my best friend). Fenrir... is just Fenrir xD I'm just into mithology lol

Me, I would've done alphabetical by surname (if one is given), then given (or stated) name.

Speaking of which, I spent forever looking for "Griffinhart" before it occurred to me to search for "Raphael". Sure says a lot about my relationship with him.

(I already have a Joyeuse and a Hauteclere, and I've used Almacia as a surname... pretty much the only ones I'll avoid are Curtana [because lol Halo] and Précieuse [because fuck Baligant].)

ETA: Also inb4 I use names from Arthurian mythology (why yes I do have a female Blaziken named Clarent and a male Aron named Arondight, u mad bruce?)

I sent you an email from my cougarmadcat account, Macha. It has my lists. The first tab is almost updated except for the last three characters - Roskio, Fletch and Akane. The others are not updated to now. I was going to do that but haven't yet. I was working out teams for the missions that will be coming up.

The only thing I noticed was that, in the Who Owns Who thing, you put Sophia under my characters – Sophie is Sophia's (Mina's). Otherwise, everything looks awesome.

Still a WIP. If you need/want edit access, I'll need your email (PM it to me or something, don't [holy fuck I just spelled that as sond't, I am totally out of sorts] plaster it on a publicly-accessible forum), since I didn't want to make the sheet editable by anyone with the link.

I had an idea to calculate counts (e.g., warrior/rogue/mage counts, specialization counts, gender counts, etc.), but I'm too tired to be able to think it out perfectly straight, and I think it'll require a calculation subsheet.

(If you're interested: =IF(EXACT(column:row, "Warrior"), 1, 0) will return 1 if the text at column:row matches "Warrior", else it returns 0. So I could make a calculation subsheet that basically has a column of =IF(EXACT(column:row, "Warrior"), 1, 0), with the column corresponding to the Class column in the "Active" sheet. Then I could have a =SUM() entry on the Active sheet that sums up all of the 1's and 0's from that column of the calculation subsheet, and that would give a count of "Warrior" entries in the Class column.

I can do this for every text data column - for example, gender would be =IF(EXACT(column:row, "M"), 1, 0) and =IF(EXACT(column:row, "F"), 1, 0) for male and female, respectively, with "column" corresponding to the Gender column on the "Active" sheet. ["row" increments in a corresponding manner as well.]

I'm just not entirely sure if this works because I haven't done this, and Google Docs and my unorthodox web browser setup don't get along.)

ETA: Instructions: right, for those of you unfamiliar with GDocs' spreadsheets. If you want to sort the list alphabetically by character name, right-click on the Character column and select "Sort sheet A-> Z" (or "Z -> A" if you want it in reverse-alphabetical). If you want to sort by the date of creation, do the same on the Created column. (You can, in fact, reverse/alphabet sort the sheet by any of the columns.) This will actually modify the sheet for anyone who can view it though, so once you're done with looking at your pretty sort, it'd be nice if you'd be kind enough to re-sort by Created date.

You literally just took something I understand (Google Docs), and made it completely incomprehensible with your math/computer wizardry.

But the sheet looks great!

=SUM() is a pretty basic spreadsheet function (take the sum of the values in a given range), but I've never actually attempted anything as advanced ("advanced") as text-parsing (=EXACT(val1, val2)) or logical evaluation (=IF(test_func(), then_val, else_val)) (though I'd've been more surprised if the latter weren't a spreadsheet function).

The math functions are pretty expected though, most spreadsheet programs have them (since that's what spreadsheet programs were basically designed to do - have an array of input data, run calculations, get output data). I picked up most of my spreadsheeting skills from one semester of taking a physics lab course, hence why I'm not so hot at it. Probably would've been useful to know statistics, but I never had much of a mind (or care) for stats (at least, the typical sort of stats - probabilities, deviations, distributions, etc.).

ETA: OH HO HO HO. There is a =COUNTIF(range, criteria) function! If this works the way I think it does (and GDocs' help page says criteria can be a character string, so it probably does work the way I think it works), then I won't need to do anything as needlessly complicated as my previous idea!

ETA2: SUCCESS!

ETA3: Added Male, Female, Warrior, Rogue, Mage, and Warrior/Mage counts. Also calculated average age (=AVERAGE(E2:E63), much cleaner than =SUM(E2:E63)/(63-2)).

Hmm, wonder if I could calculate "days since creation" values for each character...

It's probably one half hilarious amounts of sleep deprivation, one half insomnia, two halves my body trying to kill me, and mostly my assumption that I'm not the only person who's ever used a spreadsheet program. Gotta crunch dem numbers, yo.

Though, a friend of mine has made much, much sexier sheets - he's got one that queries EVE Online's API (or maybe it was EVE-Central's?) to update prices for materials and then calculates the costs of construction certain items, and the potential revenue in selling said items at an assumed value.

Looks like magstabs are still selling at the best prices. I really need to get around to baking a set some time soon, I need the ISKies for a new battleship...

ETA: Ho ho! Added a "Days Since Creation" "Meta Age" column because I could. It's as simple as =(TODAY()-K#), where # is the corresponding row.
