Background: Life was good for the Preeda family. They were a wealthy merchant family from Kirkwall with three wonderful and talented sons and a seemingly excellent future ahead for all. Their eldest son Cashel had just married a local girl from the minor nobility and was learning the ropes of the family business. Then to everyone's suprise Mrs. Preeda became pregnant at 42 years old. The pregnancy was a hard one and Mrs. Preeda died birthing the girl child. Striken with grief and not know what to do with the child Mr. Preeda gave her to Cashel and his wife Cayleen to raise as they did not yet have any children of their own. Six months after his wife's passing Mr. Preeda fell victim to an illness and passed away.

Cayleen cared well enough for young Sloane, but Cashel and her two other brothers cared little for her, seeing her as the cause of their parent's deaths. When Sloane was four Cayleen had her first child, a little girl. Two years later Cayleen gave birth to twin boys. Cashel felt his sons deserved all their mother's attention and sent Sloane away to the sisters at the local Chantry.

Sloane never felt she fit in at home and so didn't mind being sent away. Cayleen still came to visit her once every few months, but she never saw her three brothers again. She liked life at the chantry well enough as there was so much to learn and to do, but as she got older she became restless. She was constantly getting into trouble for going where she wasn't allowed, starting fights, and dissapearing for hours at a time. When she got to be about thirteen she began to get into trouble with the servant boys. The sisters had had enough and sent Sloane to the templars for training and better discipline.

Sloane thrived with the templars. She finally found a place where she fit in and could reach her true potential. She quickly rose to the top of all her classes, exceling in all forms of combat. She was also extremely bright and recieved a great deal of tactical and leadership training. She still often got into trouble with the boys, but learned to be discreet and her teachers chose to ignore her indiscresions so long as they did not interfear with discipline.

At 18 she was given her first assignment in a mage circle. She excelled at keeping order amoung the mages, but soon found the job incredibly boring. Two years later she was transfered to a squad of mage hunters, and another year later was promoted to knight-lieutenant and given her first command.

Her few months of command were difficult as some of her soldiers resented taking orders from such a young and inexperienced templar. Sloane quickly dealt with the discipline problems in her squad and began to build an excellent reputation for herself. She was known as a dedicated and highly efficient mage hunter. She had great instincts and was an excellent fighter. Ruthless when crossed she also gained a reputation for being extremely fair and diplomatic when the situation called for it. She combined her strength and excellent fighting skills with her intelligence to make herself into an exteremely dangerous weapon.

Two years ago Sloane was sent to hunt a small group of mages that had taken up blood magic and dissapeared into the forests. They had killed six templars and two mages making their escape from the circle and were desperatly wanted, preferably dead. Sloane and her elite team found the group three weeks later living in an abandoned hunter's cabin near a stream. The clearing around the cabin was strewn with the corpses of dead wildlife, as well as horses, mabari, and even a few small children presumably snatched from the farm steadings nearby. The mages had obviously been experimenting and trying to increase their powers. Sloane and her templars hid in the woods surrounding the cabin until nightfall, listening to the piteous sounds of even more animals suffering and dying at the hands of the blood mages. In the dead of the night Sloane had archers shoot fire arrows into the cabin, which quickly became an inferno. Sloane and her other templars waited outside and slaughtered the mages as they awoke and ran for their lives. In the wreakage after the battle was over and the fire died down Sloane found a young mabari pup that she instantly bonded with and she named him Sobaka. when the returned to the circle she convinced her commander to let her keep him and train him to hunt mages.

When she heard about the problems at the mage circle in Fereldan during the blight she sought permission to head there and help out. Given her excellent record Sloane and Sobaka were paired with another templar and sent to help their Fereldan counterparts.

Personality: Sloane is very dedicated to the Chantry and her work as a templar. While she gets along well with mages and has no problem with them at all, if they step out of line she will stop at nothing to bring them to justice. Sloane is a fierce warrior and a strong believer of discipline in the line of duty, but off duty she has a much lighter and more carefree attitude. She loves to have fun when she can find the time. She enjoys card games a great deal and enjoys a good drink in the nearest tavern. Her favorite leisure activity involves finding the nearest willing handsome man (or the occational woman) and dragging them off to have her way
with them.

Weapons/Armor: Sloane has two sets of armor. She wears standard templar armor when in the city or serving at a circle. She also has a set of excellently made leather armor for when she is out hunting mages since plate armor is not suited for speed or stealth. She prefers to fight with a longsword and a heater shield, but is proficient with dual weapon and two handed weapon fighting as well. She also has several daggers hidden on her person at all times. The odd time her duties allow her to be out of her armor she prefers trousers and a nice tunic, but she never goes anywhere unarmed, always carrying at least her sword and a few daggers.

Appearance: Sloane is tall at 5'11", with a lean, muscular, athletic build. Her skin is bronze in colour
from years in the sun and elements hunting mages. She keeps her long dark brown hair up in a bun or braid to make it practical for fighting and for wearing a helm. Her light grey eyes can dance with laughter or turn
stormy and hard depending on her mood.

Tattooes that resemble a mix of smoke and growing plants cover her cheeks, temples, and forehead.
Other tattooes cover her body including wolf prints up both arms, a string of mysterious symbols running along her spine, a spirling vortex on her stomach, a complicated set of symbols on her cleavage, and a snake wrapped around a dagger on her ankle. When asked about the meaning of any of her tattooes Sloane loves to make up random, wild stories. Each tattoo has a true story, but she does not share the true stories lightly and all are not known to any one person. Rumor has it each wolf paw is an apostate she has tracked down, while each symbol represents a malificar or demon she has slain, but no one knows if there is any truth to these rumors.
